Our rides

Childs lead pony

Lead ponies are for YOU to lead your younger children around on. You can have the pony for up to two hours and lead as many children around as you want. The pony will have a lead rope instead of reins so that you can control and lead the horse. Please arrive by 9.30am or 12.30pm so that a guide can set you up and give you instructions on leading before the main trek leaves. You can bring your children’s bike helmets or select from our smaller helmets.

1 hour ride

Great for getting your first taste! You leave at the same time as the 2 hour trek but return to base early with a guide. If you book for one hour then decide you want to keep going for two hours that’s fine by us.

2 hour ride

This is our most popular ride. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or more experienced. Two hours lets us venture further from base and see more of the countryside. If you book for two hours but decide to return with the one hour group we are happy to refund the difference.

4 hour ride

Book into both morning and afternoon treks and ride from 10.00am to 3.00pm with a one hour lunch break back at the arena. If you decide at lunch time that you don’t want to do the afternoon trek we are happy to refund you the difference.

1.5 hour cow roundup

This is a less demanding trek of about 1.5 hours leaving at 3.30pm. We ride on gently sloping hills, across the wooden bridge and along the cow races to collect the milking cows. After rounding them up from their paddock with our horses we follow them to the milking shed and then return to the arena.

2 hour glow-worm special

This is a two hour trek leaving about an hour before dark. We ride the last half hour in complete darkness along a stream bed deep in a valley to see the glow-worms. You will get to see the lights over Hamilton as you ride back to base. This is suitable for riders with sufficient confidence to steer their horse and may not be suitable for young children or anybody who is afraid of the dark.

Bring your own horse

We suggest that you start by following along on one of our two hour treks to learn where the many tracks go, and take advantage of having a guide to open and close the gates for you. Once you are comfortable with navigating the farm you are welcome to request permission to explore the tracks on your own. This is a great way of getting your horse fit on our interesting hill country and perfect for pony club children to get used to riding their horse outside an arena.

Other weekday treks

We can offer horse rides on other days with sufficient notice. There is a minimum charge of $175 (equal to 5 people for 2 hours) and pre-payment by internet banking is required. You can postpone or cancel up to 12 hours before and a full refund is available. We will also offer to rebook or refund your deposit if the weather means we need to cancel. There is no refund if you simply don’t turn up or call us after the horses have been brought in for your trek.
